Indica vs. Sativa vs. Hybrid: What's Actually the Difference?

If you have shopped for cannabis before, you have seen every product sorted into three buckets: indica, sativa, or hybrid. The common wisdom is that indicas relax you and sativas energize you, with hybrids landing somewhere in between. That framework is useful shorthand, but it is not the whole story.
Indica and sativa originally described the physical shape of the cannabis plant - indicas are short and bushy, sativas are tall and lanky - not their chemical effects. Decades of cross-breeding mean almost everything on a dispensary shelf today is technically a hybrid at the genetic level. What actually drives how a strain makes you feel is its specific cannabinoid and terpene profile: the ratio of THC to CBD, and which terpenes (myrcene, limonene, pinene, and others) are present in meaningful amounts.
Myrcene, for example, is associated with sedating, "couch-lock" effects and is common in strains traditionally labeled indica. Limonene, common in many sativas, is associated with uplifted, energetic effects. That said, individual body chemistry plays a real role too - the same strain can hit two people differently.
Our practical advice: use the indica/sativa/hybrid label as a starting point, but check the THC percentage and, where listed, the terpene breakdown before you buy. On Weedeliver, every strain in our directory lists its actual THC range and reported effects so you can shop by what a product will likely do, not just what shape the plant used to be.
